What Is Congenital Pseudarthrosis of the Tibia? 

Congenital Pseudarthrosis of the Tibia (CPT) is a rare orthopedic condition in which the tibia is abnormally weak and fails to heal normally. Children may develop repeated fractures, progressive deformity, limb shortening and difficulty standing or walking. Because of its complexity, treatment may require specialized pediatric orthopedic and limb reconstruction expertise. .

Patient Presentation – Congenital Pseudarthrosis of the Tibia 

A young child presented with an unhealed shin bone (Congenital Pseudarthrosis of the Tibia), progressive deformity, and instability of the leg. Walking had become increasingly difficult, and the family was seeking a long-term solution after previous treatment had failed to achieve bone healing.

Treatment Challenges in Congenital Pseudarthrosis of the Tibia 

The primary goals of treatment were to:

• Achieve solid bone healing (union)
• Correct the deformity and restore proper alignment
• Provide a stable, functional limb capable of weight bearing
• Reduce the risk of future fractures

Given the rarity and complexity of this condition, meticulous surgical planning and advanced reconstructive techniques were essential.

Surgical Treatment & Limb Reconstruction

The patient underwent limb reconstruction aimed at correcting the tibial deformity, restoring alignment and creating a stable environment for bone healing. The surgical strategy was individualized according to the deformity, bone quality, limb shortening and previous treatment history.
